My favorite UNI memory is teaming up with a fraternity to build a float for the Homecoming parade. I specifically remember the year my Alpha Delta Pi sisters and I were paired with the Delta Upsilon fraternity. We gathered in the parking lot behind the DU house early that morning to load up, and I went back and forth between riding on, and walking beside, our float throughout the entire parade route. If memory serves, it was 1991. It was a crisp Fall morning, the sun was shining, the sidewalks were filled with UNI students; families of the football players, cheer and dance teams; UNI professors and instructors; CF and Waterloo residents and business owners; and alumni—Panther fans of every age and background and alumni who walked a few blocks, drove a few hours or flew from far away places to celebrate coming “home” to their Alma Mater—it was a perfect day for a parade. And it was an event that included the entire Panther community.
